In reply to ED. You know, I just read about that one but had forgotten to figure out how to watch it. I will look it up. "Totally Killer" was pretty much the same pitch, but that one takes place in the '80s and Time Cut takes place in 2003.

@Dan S, I wasn’t sure where else to put this, but some of the creatives behind FREAKY have clearly been reading this review: TIME CUT seems to have built itself as “BACK TO THE FUTURE … with Murders!” and having just watched it one would love to see your opinion on the film.

No Spoilers from me, I’ll just say that part of the reason one would love to see your opinion on the film is that I think it’s quite good, but that there’s room for improvement: it would be very interesting to see where your assessment agrees and disagrees with mine.

In reply to ED. Newton and Vaughn really are so good in this. I'll probably watch it again within a year or two myself. I haven't seen the fake-now-real trailer, but I know people are excited about Thanksgiving by Eli Roth coming out later this year; I believe it is also a slasher, at least nominally. Maybe I'll give that one a look.

Wow. I guess High Concept Slashers really are their own subgenre now. I will definitely be adding this to my watchlist! “It’s a Wonderful Knife” is perfect as a title! It does look eerily like my pitch here…

I apologise for this deluges, but if further occurred to me that ‘It’s a Wonderful Knife’ is a concept tailor-made for giving a long serving veteran of Slasher films a sendoff (With this being set up as the protagonist – or at least a major supporting character along the lines of Doctor Loomis of HALLOWEEN – being given the chance to ‘rewind’ from the bitter end of a franchise to the first entry in the series: this might, however, be a little too meta and on the nose to be anything but a background detail).

Rewatching this film for the first time, I think we can safely say that Miss Kathryn Newton playing a mile of murder in a 5’5” package is a thing of beauty and a joy forever: Mr Vince Vaughn playing a Slasher Movie blonde in a multiple murderer’s body is nothing to sniff at either.

Also, for the record, my favourite of your remaining high concept hooks is definitely ‘It’s a Wonderful Knife’ (Bonus points if the movie covertly hinges on a Deal with the Devil, though whether by the protagonist or some
other character – and whether this film would still be a Christmas movie – must be a question for the ages).

Actually, this concept might work beautifully as the hook for a Thanksgiving Slasher specifically.
