Here is my OFCS nominations ballot for 2024. I present it without comment except for the following, so I suppose with three comments:
- I have never been less confident in my end-of-year roundups, both because I’ve seen slightly fewer movies (63 eligible features by my estimate), and because I feel less locked in on memorable achievements, though I’ve had a pretty good hit rate with well-reviewed films I’ve seen in the past two weeks. I will see many more before the Oscars and the B.A.D.S.
- This is my third year publishing various year-end rankings and the only year of those three where the Actor categories are significantly more stacked and competitive than the Actress categories.
- I was astonished to find I’ve only watched two foreign-language films among 63. Embarrassing.
Quick reminder: for the feature categories, I’m only including films I gave a “Good” or better to and leaving any additional nomination slots blank.

I don’t know how you managed 63. That’s like three times as many as me. You have also reminded me of a number of things I’ve gotta get to. (In particular, I guess I’d just plum forgot Orion and the Dark even came out this year.)
Anyway, The Substance seems appropriately highly placed.
You’ve gotta watch Mars Express and beef up that animated list though. (By the same token, I’ve gotta watch Flow.) There is of course also the matter of Nosferatu.
Only four passing-grade animated films (out of 6) is probably more surprising for me personally than only 2 foreign language films. I’ve seen enough positive buzz on Mars Express to seek it out. I actually didn’t realize it was eligible until I saw Tim review it as part of his own awards nomination deadline binge. Those movies labeled with different year on Letterboxd really throw me off in aggregating this data.
