If/when you finally watch That Thing You Do, be sure to start with the theatrical release (108 mins) rather than the extended edition (148 mins)

I like the idiosyncratic picks the best, above all A Goofy Movie, and I mean that with full admiration--I dunno if it'd make a top 100 for me, but it wouldn't be because it's unworthy. I resolve to watch That Thing You Do! very soon. Contrariwise, I resolve to finally watch The Godfather when I feel like it, which at this point might be never. (If I'm gonna oblige myself to nine hours of something, there are many things with higher priority.)

Disorganized thoughts: Casablanca would pretty definitely make my top 7, for 1942. (Don't press me too hard on this, I just spent ten minutes looking and I've seen way fewer from that year than I'd thought. But Moontide, Bambi, and Random Harvest...) Temple of Doom should be higher, approximately no. 1. I will never comprehend what everyone else loves about BatB. Delighted to see Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs and The Truman Show!

I watched both 25 and 26 at your recommendation! I do consider this list a sort of baseline of my young adulthood interests. I have so many classic films that have come on my radar in just the past couple years that I'm excited to see. Going to do a deep dive on some classics over the next couple years, which will probably reshape this list to some extent.

Oh hell yeah. This is awesome--great way to start off the year of lists, and to prove your film-loving bona fides. (I have friends from film school who don't even have top 100 movies lists. What is wrong with these people?)

I count ~10 that I have in my own top 100, and just about all are in the upper third of this list, which is a pretty solid amount of overlap. (There's one movie, in fact, that's in the exact same spot for me, which I find highly entertaining.) I'll refrain from any haterific comments (for now anyway), because there really are lots of great flicks here.

That 25-26 duo should be required viewing for anyone who doesn't get why some of us feel that modern movies are so shallow and artless.
