I know we’re almost done with January but I wanted to make sure I noted my goals for me and the site for 2024.
Pictured: “Seize the Day”
Watch 365 feature films
This will be the third year I aim for a film a day. I hit it in 2022 but not quite in 2023. I have a monster Letterboxd list of films I want to watch this year.
Publish at least 200 reviews, lists, or essays
I wrote 135 reviews plus a handful of other other items last year, so this would be a notable increase. But it’s doable, I think.
Revamp the Review Index
Inspired by Kinemalogue‘s director ranking sidebar, which I loved clicking through when I discovered the site, I want to update the Review Index to have some accessible groupings by a few categories (e.g. year, director, franchise). Final shape to be determined.
Make fewer mistakes
If you are a regular reader of this site, you have surely read a review and noticed an embarrassing typo, incomplete thought, broken sentence, repeated word, etc. many times. I am not the most fastidious self-editor. Consider this an apology for my sloppiness and commitment to do better. (Not sure how to measure this; perhaps I’ll keep a journal of forehead slaps while re-reading whatever review I published the day before.)
Try something new
This year, I want to stretch myself in some new way. Whether it’s joining another group I’m excited to be a part of like OFCS, finding another publication to write for, reviewing a new type of content, or participating in some sort of experience, I want to keep my writing-self limber, active, and connected. Ping me if you have ideas or want to collaborate!

Best of Luck with your resolutions!
I still have no idea how people who watch a film a day, or more, pull it off. I don’t have that kind of focus or stamina.
It’s my way of decompressing. Probably frying my brain tbh. I just have so many movies I want to see (and/or have seen)! I don’t actually watch one every day by myself, but the weekly movie nights with the kids bump those numbers up.
