Quite possibly the most accomplished B&W photography I’ve ever seen. Airtight, pitch-black script and remarkable acting — it’s a noir, but not so hardboiled your head spins. Welles is magnetic for all 5 minutes. The ending is unexpectedly kinetic but absolute visual mastery.
