At the start of 2023, I set some goals for myself and for the site. How did I do? Let’s take a look.
- Goal: Watch 365 feature-length films
- Result: I watched 315 feature-length films
Hey, not bad! Not as many as 2022 and not quite my goal, but still a lot of movies. Many of these were for the podcast, many were reviewed here, and some I just watched and moved on. I did make a list of 10 of my favorite first-watches of the year.
- Goal: Write every day (or maybe most days)
- Result: I wrote a lot!
I’m not sure you’d call it “most days,” but I published 139 reviews on the site, plus a handful of non-review pieces. I did a little bit of fiction writing in the fall to shake off the cobwebs. Could be worse!
- Goal: Friday lists/rankings
- Result: Got about five in, then lost steam
I constantly feel like I need a few more movies under my belt before I do some ranking, and that I usually want to spend my precious writing time on reviews rather than other articles. But I do have drafts for a few of these I might throw together at some point, and I do want lists and rankings to be a major part of The Goods down the line.
- Goal: Updating “Legacy” reviews
- Result: Over 100 reviews revised!
This was a big win: A significant portion of my archive of reviews had been written in various styles. I read through and revised many reviews, made sure they were all 400+ words, added in some screen caps, cleaned up the writing, and removed the “Legacy” label so they appear in the Review Index.
Overall, not a bad year. 2024 goals coming soon!
