As of my review of The Prestige, my rewatch of my 2009 Top 100 films is complete!
When one reads a lot about movies, it’s sometimes difficult to separate the movie from the hype (or hate) it gets from the masses.
No need to beat around the bush: the second Pixar feature film, A Bug’s Life, is a significant step down from the first, the commercial and critical juggernaut that is Toy Story
Thus ends the strangest trilogy in Disney Channel Original Movie history.
Greyhound opens with a lovely little flashback scene.
Australia is Baz Luhrmann’s best film.
I’ve found that it’s a surprisingly contentious topic which High School Musical film is the best of the trilogy.
An outstanding teen drama about a big-hearted alcoholic and his repressed girlfriend who want to save each other. Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley are terrific, and the movie is incredibly romantic, sad, and funny in the right places. There’s a single-shot walk through the woods that is the most I’ve felt like a teen falling in love since I was a teen falling in love. Aimee (Woodley) ends up more a plot tool to develop Sutter (Teller) than a character with depth, but that’s basically my only complaint. Even the loser-daddy-issues thread, which should be a trainwreck, packs a big punch.
Christopher Nolan is not the type of filmmaker to make directly introspective works.
