When the movie opened with elephant shit, I knew that this was not going to be my favorite version of Damien Chazelle.
And so it began.
Reality is a fascinating piece of docudrama by Tina Satter, adapting her stage play to film.
As an adaptation of the universally-known and -loved novel from 1970, it is what you would expect: nostalgic and rosy and clearly a piece of “warm-hug cinema.” It’s more than that, though.
Consider this review a sticky note for me to revisit Singin’ in the Rain in the years to come.
